Greetings MCFN Family & Friends

Only a month and a half to the Gathering!  Time really does fly.  I am looking forward to visiting with family, greeting old friends and making new ones.

No matter what takes place in our lives from one Gathering to the next, we must hold our families and friends close to our hearts, because before you know it, we are old and we lose loved ones.  We must each of us, look into our hearts and remember what is good and kind in each of us.  We must learn to forgive past hurts and build a new and stronger relationship...and we must remember, at all times, that our goal is to build a successful and caring community.

I continue to work as the Chairperson for the LTAC (Land Transfer Advisory Committee) and attend Chief & Council meetings.  We are still waiting for Ontario negotiators to move ahead with the supplementary consultation with stakeholders in the area of our chosen site.  The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs, Mr. Duguid, has, again, assured us that this consultation will take place, beginning either the second week of July or at the end of that month.

As a result of the continual delay in moving this process forward  and our frustration with the ever-changing timeline, we are in the process of preparing an Impact Statement which outlines some of the losses and hardships that our Membership has had to endure.  We have presented this Statement to Council and we will be sending it out within the next week to federal and provincial government leaders and to leaders of First Nation organizations.  We are hoping that this move with generate some forward progress in the transfer of land to Missanabie Cree.

Travel safe everyone, have a great summer and hopefully, we will all meet again in August.

In the Spirit of Community Building,

Audrey Bateson, Councillor, MCFN
